Tomio Koyama Gallery opened in 1996 in Saga-cho, Koto-ku, Tokyo, and moved in 2016 to the Roppongi neighborhood. Since it was founded, the gallery has participated in international art fairs, creating opportunities for audiences around the world to encounter young Japanese artists for the first time, and has generated a movement that has become a foundation of the Japanese contemporary art scene. The gallery currently represents Kishio Suga, Mika Ninagawa, Hiroshi Sugito, and Richard Tuttle, and it also hosts exhibitions of works by ceramic artists. By introducing diverse artists from established figures to young talents, beyond distinctions of nationality or genre, Tomio Koyama Gallery aims to develop the contemporary art market with original perspectives.

Born in Malaysia in 1973, Shooshie Sulaiman is currently recognized as one of the most important contemporary artists in Southeast Asia. Of both Malay and Chinese origin, the history of Southeast Asia, the culture of her homeland, her personal memories, and her own identity all serve as significant themes within her work. An almost mystical air permeates Sulaiman’s oeuvre, with works produced through diverse approaches—ranging from drawing and collage to installation and performance—that at times appropriate natural elements from trees, soil, and water that are native to the land. Through such elements, her works inform viewers of the complex and inextricably connected relationship between human beings, nature, and art.
