Taguchi Fine Art (TFA) was founded in 2001 with the belief that art is concerned with the existential problems of human beings. The gallery promotes international artists by hosting exhibitions and participating in fairs. Artists represented by TFA include Chen Ruo Bing, Frank Gerritz, Yasutake Iwana, Kim Taek Sang, Christiane Löhr, Yoshinobu Nakagawa, Shigeru Nishikawa, Morio Nishimura, Regine Schumann, and Michael Toenges, among others.

Taguchi Fine Art is pleased to present an exhibition of new works by Morio Nishimura. The show will comprise a series of six works entitled “Oblivion,” which are based on the motif of lotus seeds. All the works are cast in bronze from original molds made by a unique method of cutting off the corners of stacked plywood to obtain smooth curves. Within his practice, Nishimura consistently attempts to deeply study subjects related to religion, such as lotus leaves and seeds, and to investigate the relationships between human beings, nature, and the world with the help of these subjects as well as human’s religious activities.

Born in Tokyo in 1960, Nishimura now resides in Meerbusch, Germany. After having graduated from Tama Art University in 1985, he moved to Germany as DAAD scholarship recipient in 1991. Nishimura studied under Günter Ucker at the Art Academy in Dusseldorf and graduated in 1995. Then, from 1998–99, under the Japanese government’s overseas study program for artists, he studied religion and contemporary art in the department of culture and spiritual history at the Mainz Academy of Art, part of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, where stayed as a lecturer for two and half years after finishing his degree. In 2001, he received the title of “the artist of Kunst-Station Sankt Peter, Cologne, 2001–02.”
